Back to the Future … Climate Change ? in Greenland

Rare Burst of Melting Seen in Greenland roared the 24 July 2012 headline in the NY Times. A NASA satellite flying over Greenland took pictures that showed, “In a scant four days this month, the surface of Greenland’s ice sheet melted to an extent not witnessed in 30 years of satellite observations.” Could it be climate change? Or could it be the reappearance of a cyclical sudden melting-slow freezing phenomenon? Treating these questions as “either-or” is a mistake. Climate change is the ever-present background for every cyclic process.
