Focus the Nation on Global Warming event – Everything’s Cool, Jan 28, PCC Sylvania

Have you heard about Focus the Nation? This group is working on ways to engage American citizens, businesses, government, you name it, on global warming “solutions” (I prefer “management” but that’s just not that sexy). They are sponsoring events all over the U.S. including a Portland showing of Everything’s Cool, a new movie about how 6 people overcame indifference, ignorance, and media manipulation, to get Americans to think about climate change.

Everything’s Cool will be shown at Portland Community College, Sylvania campus, on Jan 28 (that’s the first Monday of classes) for free at 1 p.m (event info). Alan will be driving from Reed (leaving between 12:20-12:30) to PCC Sylvania and returning to Reed afterwards. If you would like to attend, email Alan and make sure you are at his office (Chemistry 408) by 12:20 on Monday.

I went to PCC (used a TriMet bus for part of the trip. I found the Performing Arts Center. I waited. At 1 pm, seeing that I was the only person there, I phoned the PCC sponsors and they said, “sorry, but we couldn’t get the film – hope you haven’t been inconvenienced.”

But just as I was resigned to getting back on the bus, they followed with “did you see the full list of Focus the Nation events that we have going on?” I hadn’t. It turned out that Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie on climate change and environmental degradation, The 11th Hour was being shown at 1 pm elsewhere on campus. I trotted over there, arrived just in the nick of time, and caught all of this interesting film. Ask me about it.
