Living a “negawatt” lifestyle
Amory Lovins at the Rocky Mountain Institute has been pointing the way towards efficient use of energy for over two decades. In a recent interview with Living on Earth (March 28, 2008), he described how he saves energy in his own home by creating “negawatts”. One of his recommendations: check out the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s (ACEEE) web site. The ACEEE has a Consumer Resources page that can help you generate your own negawatts by replacing inefficient appliances with energy efficient ones. They also give you information about energy “vampires,” those appliances that suck energy from the grid even while they “sleep” (the worst of the undead: TiVo). How about generating some negawatts in our labs?
